Sometimes, things need to go "boom"

01/10/2072

For March, it was a matter of professionalism that he should return to JC’s to keep tabs on Boris. The surgery scars he had noted during his first examination were of significant concern for the technomancer. Indeed, it would even provide an opportunity to experiment with a new secret he had pulled from the Resonance, an inner ability to seek out electromagnetic disruptions. Reaching out with his new senses, March could just barely make out some distortion, but as with all new skills, it would take practice to tell more.

After March had explained what he had discovered to JC, the ersatz hacker went to work panning through frequencies and attempting various port calls until he’d located a frequency and port combination to which the “hidden” node located within Boris would respond. While JC attempted to connect, Boris’ latest master, Yuri, arrived to see how the dog’s recovery was going. It wasn’t long for March to catch Yuri up on the latest and then, JC was able to add in what he’d discovered. Boris was slaved to a Zombie Technologies server through a CAST system. With little time to research the matter, JC and March lured Boris into a faraday cage which JC kept handy for some of the more sensitive cyber procedures he performs then quickly re-coded the accounts on Boris’ CAST to allow only JC or Yuri’s AccessIDs to establish a legitimate connection.

It wasn’t long after that March received invitations to meet with a Mr. Johnson at Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Unbeknownst to the others, JC had already received a similar communication under his identity of “Potomac”. Given the manner in which he was contacted, JC refused to acknowledge any such message to either March or Yuri. While March rounded up the team to decide if they would attend the meeting, JC proceeded to hack Ruth Chris for information. It rankled both JC and March that the Johnson knew enough to contact either of them. Worse yet, whoever was behind the run had tied both of them to that unpleasentness at the Coleman Memorial Building.

At Ruth’s Chris, the team met a young man calling himself “Brennan”, though a quick search on him pulled up data indicating he was actually one Carlin Murphy. His associate was located by JC operating one of Ruth’s Chris’ drones, a young woman named Eva Kalishnikova, Matrix security specialist. The deal was simple, destroy the apartment complex called Pembroke Town Center Apartments and get 100k¥, as well as having the Coleman Memorial Building Massacre investigation pointed away from them.

Donavan delayed making a deal, asking for twenty-four hours to decide. With Brennan’s acceptance, the team departed to learn what they could of the apartment complex. Drone fly-overs by JC determined that security was light, Matrix research verified that the facility had been condemned and the only residents were squatters there illegally. Unfortunately, these unauthorized tennants included RockSalt. Further, talking with their contacts cleared the run with Ms. Johnson, and revealed that the apartment complex was collateral against a debt owed the Rossi Family.

Details on floor plans and maintenance tunnels proved more elusive, as the servers this information is stored on are located at Norfolk City Hall, inside the heart of the Occupy Gondor movement. And the orks had taken the servers offline. Not to be deterred, Donavan volunteered to make his way into City Hall, posing as… himself. Given Donavan’s street cred, especially amongst the orks, it proved easier than expected for him to make his way to the server room, where he had to negotiate his way around some die-hard protesters.

When City Hall came under assault by an unidentified VTOL, Donavan seized the opportunity, getting the orks in the server room to help repel the attackers, while he difused their booby-traps and proceeded to help March download whatever they could off the servers.

1 Donavan’s flagrant activity at the Occupy Gondor riot has brought extra negative attention down on him.
fn2. Adjusted to correct for how Street Cred is supposed to be calculated.

Table primarily printed just to get everyone back on the same page.
